CLOUDY GOBY
Opua nephodes E.K. Jordan, 1925
This goby lives on muddy or silty bottoms, either in highly protected areas such as Kane`ohe Bay, O`ahu, or at sufficient depth offshore to be protected from surge. It is often found near burrows made by other animals, but when approached scoots away rather than entering. Color is grayish with many brown dots and some smaller white spots. Some of the brown dots coalesce to form "dashes" in a line along the center of the side. Because of its habitat, this species is not often seen by snorkelers or divers. To about 2 in. Known to date from Hawai`i, Marshall Islands, and Palau. Photos: Kahe Point, O`ahu. 70 ft.  Previously placed in the genus Hazeus.
