Pseudoceros
cf. verecundus

1-3: David Rolla, Haleiwa and Pupukea, Oahu. Photo 4: Phillip Peck,
Mahukona, Hawaii.
David Rolla photographed the top two animals at Haleiwa, Oahu, in September
2018, at a depth of about 2 ft. He had previously found one at Pupukea,
Oahu, at a depth of 15 ft. (photo 3). Both were white with a narrow
orange submarginal line. The pseudotentacles and part of the head region
were black, the pseudotentacles bisected with an orange band that connected
to the orange submarginal line. The dorsal surfaces were slightly "lumpy."
This worm somewhat resembles Pseudoceros verecundus on the Newman
& Cannon CD, but, as usual, does not exactly match it.
Update:
Phillip Peck photographed another at Mahukona on the Big Island in April
2023. Although the submarginal band on his worm was almost black, the
other features matched. Phillip writes "It was about 5mm in size
in about 25 feet of water. It was on the move and difficult to catch
up to under its little ledge."
