cf.
Euryleptid 6
upper
photo: Cory Pittman, "Black Rock", Maui. Shaded wall, 15-20
ft. Size: about 12 mm; middle photo: Victoria Martocci, First Cathedral
(cave), Lanai; bottom: Andrew Cooper, Kua Bay, Hawai`i. Shaded wall.
30 ft.
Resembles both Euryleptid 6 and
Pseudoceros 23 on
the Newman & Cannon CD, but does not exactly match either. The large
pointed tentacles with black triangle between, are closer Euryleptid
6, but the overall color pattern ("cream becoming orange at the
margin with narrow black rim") matches Pseudoceros 23. However,
with those tentacles it is clearly not in the genus Pseudoceros.
A photo of this
species appears in Reef and Shore Fauna of Hawaii, section 2,
plate 2.I.4b labeled "?Pseudocerotid sp.: note cerebral
eye group. Pupukea, Oahu. 10 m., under rocks; length ca. 10mm. (Courtesy
S. Johnson)"
It is active by
day seems to prefer shaded areas.
